Job Summary & Essential Functions: The role of the Buyer/ Planner is assigned a hybrid role to help manage production scheduling and to perform complex purchasing functions while operating independently within established purchasing guidelines, while maintaining physical and systemic transaction history with the highest level of quality. In addition, the Buyer/ Planner is tasked with the investigation of and correcting missed or incorrect inventory transactions while assisting the Master Planner execute assigned duties to ensure the flow of materials is consistent with needed production and work order schedules. The Buyer/ Planner is often tasked with special projects, including: Developing and maintaining production schedules, managing perpetual inventory investigations, supporting year-end physical inventory counts and maintaining age controlled items to ensure the available materials are used within the manufacturer’s recommended life span. The Buyer/ Planner is often asked to perform other duties needed to selectively negotiate with suppliers, drive favorable purchase price variance and place purchase orders with customer and 3rd party vendors.


Specific duties and responsibilities:

• Assist in the coordination of resources to meet scheduled planning dates of customer’s

products

• Maintain production and shipping schedules

• Support the internal communication of supplier Product Change Notifications (PCN’s)

• Analyze available sources and shop full AVL for best pricing

• Place purchase orders

• Schedule, monitor and verify deliveries

• Expedite/ reschedule deliveries, as required

• Elevate issues that may impact delivery schedules in a timely manner

• Ensure best overall value for organization

• Assist the materials function of the MRB process

• Identify and resolve BOM errors

• Work with production team supervisors, leads and management to adjust production

schedules as needed to meet customer and company requirements

• Work in conjunction with the Planning team to achieve level loading of critical production

processes to ensure the accuracy of production completion commitments

• Support production planning and scheduling processes through timely procurement activities

• Track down errors in inventory by input, count or disposal

• Assist production staff and supervisors with complex problems or issues

• Other duties, as assigned

• Relevant experience in the electronics/ electromechanical field preferred

• PC skills – Windows programs

• Basic math and accurate counting skills

• Read, write and understand English

• Repetitive lifting and moving materials up to 50 lbs

• A minimum 5 years of previous experience in a manufacturing and/ or production

environment

• JD Edwards (software) experience preferred

• AA degree in Business Management or equivalent preferred

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

• This is an electronics manufacturing environment that requires the use of safety devices

including glasses with side shields and ESD equipment/clothing.

• This position operates on site and is not assigned for remote work

• This position is often required to handle lead solder and paste, isopropyl alcohol, flux, RTV,

and various adhesives. All assigned PPE must be utilized per Volex policy

• Ability to work in a team-based environment.
