Our Client is one of the leading Mechanical & Electrical Consulting firms operating out of multiple offices locations across Western Canada. They offer one of the best buildings project portfolios in the market given their long and deep relationships with owners, architects, government authorities, contractors and other engineering firms (Structural).
The opportunity is extremely rare as they are looking for the Healthcare Sector Lead. This is a Partner level opportunity reporting to the Board of Directors. Initially a Provincial role, the opportunity is to grow the business Regionally and then Nationally. There isn’t a ceiling to the growth potential of the desired incumbent. The firm is positioned extremely well, is organized to invest in the individual and overall business and has an appetite to take their business to the next level.
The Candidate:
You will ideally have a long and storied career thus far in the Healthcare Sector, leading Hospital projects from start to finish within either the P3 market or within a Solutions based Direct to owner for large system upgrades/replacements, if not both. As such, you will be well established and will have experience built a strong reputation with the Health Authorities, Contractors (General, M&E, etc.) and Architects.
Leading a team of jr., int. and sr. level engineers/designers, you will have years of people management experience in terms of mentorship, workflow, and productivity. In addition, you will bring with you years of experience in hiring, training and developing new staff, towards the building of a robust business where you enjoy full P&L responsibility.

Role Overview:
As a Mechanical Healthcare Partner - Consulting Engineer, you will collaborate with healthcare providers, architects, and construction teams to design, develop, and implement mechanical systems that meet the stringent requirements of healthcare environments. Your expertise will ensure that mechanical solutions, including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems, adhere to regulatory standards, ensure patient safety, and provide optimal functionality within healthcare settings.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Development:
- Lead the design and specification of mechanical systems, such as HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and medical gas systems for healthcare facilities.
- Ensure mechanical systems meet the healthcare facility's requirements, including patient comfort, infection control, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure mechanical designs integrate seamlessly into overall building plans.
2. Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, standards, and building codes, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and other healthcare-specific guidelines.
- Coordinate with local and national authorities to ensure all mechanical designs meet required healthcare certifications and safety protocols.
3. Project Management:
- Manage and oversee mechanical aspects of healthcare facility projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Conduct feasibility studies and provide recommendations to clients regarding mechanical system improvements, replacements, or new installations.
- For system upgrades/replacements, manage the tendering process for mechanical contractors, including reviewing bids and selecting appropriate partners.
4. System Integration and Testing:
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems to ensure they function as designed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the construction and commissioning phases.
- Perform ongoing reviews and modifications to systems as needed to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
5. Sustainability and Innovation:
- Incorporate sustainable and energy-efficient solutions in mechanical designs to reduce the environmental impact of healthcare facilities.
- Stay updated on the latest technologies and innovations in mechanical engineering and healthcare design.
6. Client Liaison and Communication:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for healthcare clients, ensuring their mechanical system needs are understood and met.
- Present and explain design concepts, engineering reports, and project plans to healthcare executives and technical teams.
- Provide ongoing support for facility operations teams post-construction to address mechanical system maintenance and upgrades.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer license or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience in mechanical systems design, especially HVAC, plumbing, and medical gases in healthcare environments.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare-specific regulations and standards (ASHRAE 170, NFPA 99, etc.).
- Proficiency in CAD software and mechanical design tools (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a team environment.
Experience:
- At least 5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a significant portion in healthcare facility design.
- Previous consulting experience is highly desirable.
- Experience working on large-scale healthcare projects, such as hospitals, clinics, or research institutions.
