Position Summary:
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Senior Buyer fosters buying practices in alignment with company objectives and supports the daily operations of the Purchasing Department. The Senior Buyer embraces a leadership role within the department and provides guidance to Buyers as needed.
Position Responsibilities:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for the following:
- Developing and utilizing the MRP system (Syspro) to its full capability;
- Collaborating with various departments to ensure business needs are understood and met;
- Strategically planning purchases while optimizing and streamlining the supplier base;
- Maintaining and developing supplier relationships at all levels;
- Proactively communicating with suppliers and service providers (i.e., freight forwarders);
- Investigating and resolving supply issues using tactical and strategic approaches, expediting to meet urgent needs and implementing contingencies to mitigate future risks;
- Ensuring continuous communication with stakeholders;
- Forecasting product requirements;
- Determining optimal safety stock levels and ensuring such levels are consistently met and/or adjusted as appropriate based on changing demand;
- Monitoring inventory levels;
- Ensuring MRP planning parameters are accurately maintained;
- Introducing cost savings and cost avoidances, savvy buying practices, challenging supplier price increases, negotiate price decreases, leveraging economies of scale, etc.
- Representing Purchasing at bi-weekly scheduling meetings, as required;
- Representing Purchasing as department lead when the Purchasing Manager is absent, as required;
- Identifying opportunities for improvement;
- Preparing various reports as necessary;
- Supporting and contributing to strategic initiatives to ensure continuous improvement;
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must be a self-starter with high attention to detail, use data driven approaches, have excellent time management and an ability to prioritize;
- Must have strong business acumen and effective communication skills;
- Must demonstrate a high level of competency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.);
- Must be capable of delivering results and positively impacting the company’s financials;
- Must demonstrate a commitment to continuing education within the Supply Chain/Purchasing arena.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in a business-related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a purchasing function;
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems in a manufacturing environment;
- Direct supplier and commodity management experience for multiple commodities/suppliers; and
- Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated experience within a lean manufacturing environment and supply chain management/global buying with emphasis in importing from Asia-Pacific.
Compensation:
Competitive salary of $65,000 to $85,000 plus profit sharing and benefits.
