Director of Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance


Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance to lead and oversee all legal, regulatory, and compliance activities for our operations in the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in corporate law, regulatory compliance, risk management, and cross-border operations. This role requires a proactive leader who can ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations, support business objectives, and foster a culture of compliance and ethical business practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Counsel
  • Provide strategic legal advice and support to executive leadership and business units in the US and Canada.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Manage external legal counsel relationships and coordinate external legal resources as needed.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Develop and implement regulatory compliance programs to ensure adherence to local, state/provincial, and federal laws in both countries.
  • Stay current with changes in legislation and regulations that impact the business and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Risk Management
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and compliance risks across the organization.
  • Establish internal policies and controls to ensure risk minimization and compliance.
  • Conduct audits and assessments to monitor adherence to policies and regulations.
  • Team Leadership
  • Build, develop, and manage a high-performing legal and compliance team.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to team members.
  • Foster a collaborative environment to support organizational objectives.
  • Ethics and Governance
  • Promote a culture of integrity and ethical decision-making across all levels of the organization.
  • Lead internal investigations and provide recommendations for resolution of compliance-related issues.
  • Ensure governance practices align with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree; active bar membership in the US or Canada.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in corporate law, regulatory compliance, or a related field, with experience in both US and Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Strong knowledge of US and Canadian legal systems, regulatory frameworks, and industry-specific compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal matters, including cross-border operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • High ethical standards and integrity.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in technology, healthcare, financial services, or a regulated industry.
  • Familiarity with privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA.
  • Bilingual in English and French (optional but preferred for Canadian operations).
