Company Description:


This is a confidential search on behalf of a leading designer and manufacturer of custom wood products for large corporate and retail customers. The company has been in business for several decades, is a recognized leader in its field and is currently in a growth phase.


Role Description:


As a Buyer, you will play a critical role in ensuring our projects are completed on time and to the highest standards by sourcing and managing materials required for production. This position requires strong negotiation skills, supplier relationship management, and a deep understanding of procurement processes, particularly within the manufacturing industry.


This is a hands-on role requiring extensive knowledge of both supply chain principles and the manufacturing industry, with a strong preference for experience in custom wood products and millwork. The ideal candidate will possess superb verbal & written communication skills be detail-oriented, proactive, and excel working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


Key Responsibilities:


• Source materials, components, and services needed for custom wood products and millwork, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.


• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure quality materials, reliable delivery timelines and favorable commercial terms.


• Monitor inventory levels to ensure materials availability while minimizing waste.


• Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements to achieve cost savings without compromising quality.


• Issue purchase orders to vendors, approve invoices and obtain credits where appropriate.


• Monitor supplier lead times, on time delivery performance and quality metrics.


• Collaborate with the production team to ensure sourced materials meet all specifications and quality standards.


• Operate with high ethical standards and ensure total compliance with company policies, applicable legislation and regulations.


• Maintain practical knowledge of relevant market trends, pricing fluctuations, and new supplier opportunities.


Education:


• Completion of a post secondary procurement/supply chain management program


Experience:


• Minimum of 5 years experience in a procurement role.

• Solid understanding of supply chain functions in a manufacturing environment.

• Experience in a manufacturing or construction-related industry, preferably in custom wood products, cabinetry, or millwork.


Skills & Competencies:


• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

• Proficient with ERP systems (preferably manufacturing-oriented).

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
