Coquitlam Public Library requires a HR Manager to join their team and provide support to the Executive and operational Leadership teams. The position reports to the Executive Director, while working closely with external service providers, library staff and the union in order to facilitate a positive working environment. With 2 branches in Coquitlam, they are a core foundation of the local community and have over 60,500 active customers!
Your new role
You will be responsible for the daily operations in the HR department, working on HRIS administration, disability and work safe claim management, engaging in recruitment, performance development and labour/employee relations. You will ensure the consistent application of HR policies and processes while providing support and contributing to the development of all staff members. You will work with the board and provide guidance around succession planning, professional development, work with committees and support performance management processes where required, and you will work to promote DE&I within the organization and be an approachable and engaging member of senior leadership. You will have a thorough understanding of working with unions and unionized employees, collective agreements and HR legal policies.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have worked in a transferable or similar organization previously (such as another not for profit). You will have proven experience of fostering good relationships with staff and the union/union members is key. You will have a level of education in HR, Business Administration or Commerce along with at least 3 years of senior/progressive HR experience, demonstrating responsibility in functional areas of HR and a unionized environment, including knowledge of collective agreements and collective bargaining. A CPHR designation is an asset but not required. You will, however, be able to show your capacity for team building and mentoring, and any people management experience is a plus as this role has 1 direct report.
