DescriptionnnREPORTS TO: Facilities ManagernnJOB SUMMARY: Responsible for electrical work in all MBL laboratory and housing buildings both on and off campus.nnMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:nnInstall, test, repair, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures in all MBL buildings.nnDiagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.nnConnect wires to circuit breakers, transformer, or other components.nnInspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.nnTest electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.nnTrack costs for cost center allocation.nnMaintain electrical supplies in a neat and orderly fashion. Notify Supervisor of supply and equipment needs.nnWork with, and coordinate with, other Plant Operation and Maintenance staff as necessary.nnServe as Category I Essential Personnel during emergencies. Expected to be available to prepare for a storm, provide facility protection during the storm, and take the first steps towards restoring normal operations.nnPerform other duties as required and/or assigned.nnSKILLS REQUIRED: Must be self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to take direction well. Must be computer literate. Must have experience with plant control systems including PLCs, analog loop controls, VFDs, and relay logic. Must be able to work well in a multi-discipline team environment with a minimum of supervision.nnEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent. Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician’s License and demonstrated skill in the trade. Must have experience working with process control systems including PLCs, loop controls, VFDs, and other system components.nnOTHER REQUIREMENTS: Post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and drug test required. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with favorable driving record. Must be available for on-call shifts and emergency work.nnPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires light work (exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Worker must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, couch, reach, push, pull, use fingertips, grasp, lift, talk, hear, taste/smell, perceive attributes of objects by touch, and perform repetitive motions. Worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach.nnENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: This position is subject to inside environmental conditions and outside environmental conditions with no effective protection from weather. Worker is subject to noise, vibration hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
