POSITION SUMMARY: Must be available weekends, holidays and extended hoursnnUnder the direction of the Leader of Imaging Services, Radiologist NM Lead Technologist and Supervisor, the technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs all activities in an ethical and professional manner.nnESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:nnEssential job functions are the fundamental job duties of the employment position.nnThe Technologist selects and operates all radiology equipment as directed and provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.nExplains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.nChecks patient’s chart to confirm order and checks arm bands to confirm identity.nMoves X-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.nPractices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.nOperates mobile X-ray equipment in Operating Room, Emergency Room, or at patient’s bedside.nCleans all equipment before and after each patient use. Portable equipment to be upon entering and leaving patient area.nCPR certification required.nQuestions female patients regarding the possibility of pregnancy.nnAble to determine when to use immobilization devices as required (use of compression bands, Pigg-O-Stat, papoose board, etc.)nAbility to determine use of slider board to move patients of all ages when needed; the use of heel and elbow protectors for geriatric patients as needed; use of table pads as needed and consideration of pathology such as emphysema, osteoporosis, etc. in techniques used.nAble to evaluate patients condition and respond appropriately in emergency situations.nOperate CR units in Radiology and be able to transfer images to PACS. Route images and burn CD’s as needed.nCheck supplies in radiology rooms and notify supervisor of any needed supplies.nnEducation: Must have successfully passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and have completed two (2) years of training in a formal accredited school of Radiologic Technology. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required. CPR certification. Registered A.R.R.T. or registry eligible. Cross training as appropriate.nn*Degree of Supervision Required: *Under periodic supervision performs routine tasks in Radiology Department. Technologist performs X-ray procedures in Operating Room and portable exams on the Nursing Units. Performs exams with C-arm and must know sterile techniques. This position requires knowledge of growth and development needs of patients and families.
