Computer Science website: Computer Science Department is looking for a System Administrator that will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of the operating systems and applications. Our IT team runs a variety of storage servers, high-performance computing, large memory, and GPU clusters. In addition to running the core department infrastructure, our IT team supports our clients from hardware purchase, hardware installation, and operating system installation, to cluster management, configuration management, application management, and maintenance of hardware and software stacks. Reporting to our IT Manager, you will work with other team members to support our diverse faculty, staff, and students and solve a broad range of exciting technical problems. Then this position may be the right fit for you!nnYour responsibilities include:nnBuild, install, configure, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot operating system to achieve optimum performance levels.nnResolve difficult system problems and provide consultation or training.nnConfigure and assist in the design of system and network security.nnManage hardware, software, and utilities for installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments.nnMonitor and analyze resource usage to recommend/develop enhancements to system capabilities and performance.nnCompare, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment.nnDocument systems infrastructure for users, support and consulting personnel, and developers.nnTrain personnel who provide support and consulting services to users.nnAct as liaison with various departments across campus.nnFacilitate vendor relationships.nn*Other duties as assigned.nnEducation & Experience (Required):nnBachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.nnKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):nnExperience with multiple types of operating systems or expert knowledge in one.nnExperience with managing an integrated computing environment.nnExtensive experience in multiple programming languages for system development.nnExperience with networked environments.nnExperience with network storage solutions.nnExperience with configuring and maintaining routers.nnDemonstrated knowledge of security protocols.nnAbility to manage shared resources and perform moderately complex tasks.nnAbility to work well independently and as a team member.nnAbility to train to others in applications and operating system fundamentals.nnExperience with middleware and infrastructure.nnPhysical Requirements*:nnConstantly perform desk-based computer tasks.nnFrequently sitting.nnOccasionally stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.nnRarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 21>40 pounds.nn*Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job.nnWorking Conditions:nnExposed to high voltage electricity, noise >80dB TWA, confined spaces, hot temperatures, heavy metals.nnExtended hours and weekends.nnWork Standards:nnInterpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.nnPromote Culture of Safety: Demonstrates commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.nnSubject to and expected to comply with all applicable University policies and procedures, including but not limited to the personnel policies and other policies found in the University’s Administrative Guide, Range:nnThe expected pay range for this position is $122,024 to $147,076 per annum.nnStanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
