General Summary Statement

  • Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs patient services utilizing digital radiographic equipment. Performs diagnostic angiographic procedures, complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. Interventional technologists must maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique. S/he must maintain knowledge of radiation safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs all necessary preparations related to Interventional Radiology Procedures.
  • Obtains patient history, explains procedures and addresses patient concerns as demonstrated by documentation and feedback.
  • Performs all necessary checks of diagnosis, prescription, Sorian order and patient identification as demonstrated by documentation.
  • Performs Interventional Radiology procedures following appropriate imaging protocols under the direction of the Interventional radiologist.
  • Compiles and reviews images, and prepares for radiologist review.
  • Reviews all diagnostic and therapeutic data for completeness and accuracy
  • Secures a safe and sterile environment for patients and staff
  • Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice.
  • Stock supplies and assure the cleanliness of the department.
  • Responsible for Interventional radiology scheduling
  • Participates in in-service education regarding equipment, supplies and procedures
  • Adheres to institutional research and investigational guidelines including: informed consent, patient rights, data collection, and billing requirements.
  • Performs as a team player - displays consideration for the needs of others and work objectives
  • Follows hospital and departmental policies
Education Training and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program resulting in a two year certificate, associate degree or four-year baccalaureate degree.
  • 1 year experience as an Interventional radiology technologist
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) card
  • Advanced examination in Vascular Interventional technology preferred
Licensure/Certification Required
  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
