Job Description
Position Summary: Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, Transesophageal, and Stress Echocardiograms, as requested by a physician and in accordance with standard practices. Provides echocardiography service at all necessary locations and providing emergent call coverage as scheduled.
Education, License & Cert: • Requires a two-year allied health degree and successful completion of an approved one-year program in Ultrasound Technology and at least two years' experience in the field. • Requires registration or registry eligible with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent organization.
Experience: Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within this field. Ability to use independent judgement to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed. Ability to communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and the patient's needs. Able to follow established departmental procedures. Able to work efficiently and cope with emergency situations
Essential Functions: 1. Performance of quality echo, stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms on adult and pediatric patients. 2. Assists in scheduling and coordinating tests, records, test results and prepares and maintains operational logs, statistics and billing. 3. Performs high-level disinfection for TEE probe in accordance to established guidelines. 4. Perform routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and report any equipment malfunctions to echo lab manager. 5. Purview patient's medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures. 6. Prepare preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologist, including comparison of previous studies. 7. Instruct students, fellows, nurses, or health personnel as requested. 8. Maintain confidentiality of patients, employees, and corporation-related activities. 9. Communicates technical and patient care related information to established processes and timelines.
Other Duties: 1. Employees may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically represented in this description. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. 2. Mandatory attendance of monthly meetings and echo conferences.
