Why does the job exist?
Provide Electrical repairs and maintenance for electrical systems throughout the facility to include Generators, fuel station inspection, emergency lighting, kitchen equipment electrical repair, facility electrical repair for 12volt to 240volts items.
How does it get done?
Participate in repair and Maintenance of existing electrical systems and equipment. inspect electrical installations for compliance with national codes and contract specifications. Prepare and maintain required logs as directed by NMAC 14.5.2.19 (B) (6). Upkeep and inspection of generators for facility electrical systems in case of emergency. Apply technical knowledge to solve problems that cannot be solved solely by reference to manufacturers manuals or similar documents. Trouble shoot all electrical power systems SCADA systems, power generation and distribution systems and ups systems, nurse call systems, wonder guard systems, work from electrical schematics and trace circuitry when schematics are not available, preform duties consistent with this classification assigned by management with limited supervision and provide technical guidance to lower-level classifications as assigned.

The primary customer are the brave men and women that answered our nations call, executed their duties and now are unable to live in their respective communities due to failing health. This job will also support the widows of the service men and women to include parents that have lost children in combat (Gold Star Parents)
Ideal Candidate
Have a high School diploma or equivalent
2 years of applicable experience in the electrical construction or maintenance field and related civilian or military trade school training or equivalent, or 3 years' experience working in hospital or long-term care facility as electrician.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience, maintaining and repairing existing electrical systems, in addition to the minimum experience requirement for journeyman electrician certificate, to include wiring, equipment, andor fixtures in accordance with applicable currently adopted New Mexico Electric Code. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience. Must be journeyman certified in accordance with Construction Industries Division licensing, 60-13-1 through 60-13-59; 14.6.3.1 through 14.6.3.9 NMAC; 14.6.4.1 through 14.6.4.8; and 14.6.6.1 through 14.6.6.14, as applicable.

Electrical Certification from the State of New Mexico
Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act, (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC) and is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.
Must sign and observe confidentiality agreement.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
Occasional travel for training & meetings and driving a State of NM owned motor vehicle may be required; Working hours may include weekends, holidays, overtime, and callback hours. Essential functions of the job and specific physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources office.
Working Conditions
Work may be performed both indoor and outdoor in inclement weather conditions. Exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT). Walking throughout the facility and frequent communication and interaction with residents, staff, and the public. Periods of walking, standing, bending pushing, pulling, lifting, and stretching for a variety of activities may be required. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead. Exposure to hazards such as boilers, dust, high noise levels, fumes and rodents. Must be able to function under pressure and stressful situations Health hazards such as exposure to contagious viruses and diseases. May also include routine exposure to public, fellow employees, and facility resident illness, stressful situation, and bodily fluids, as well as exposure to physical and/or verbal abuse. Occasional travel for training & meetings and driving a State of NM owned motor vehicle may be required; some lifting; extended hours to meet deadlines will be required. Working hours may include on-call, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and callback hours. On call during inclement weather. Can lift up to 35 lbs., Can lift and carry up to 51 lbs., Have the manual dexterity and mobility to climb ladders, scaffolds, antennas, and rooftops. Possess good vision/hearing. (Normal or corrected), Must wear personal protective equipment as required (i.e. Hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses) and respirators when required. Perform work at various heights, up to 90 'from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, roofs, or other safe work areas. Work in restrictive/tight areas. (i.e. switchgear rooms, crawl spaces, utility tunnels, ceilings, etc.).
