Job Summary: Monday - Friday 40 hrs weekly + on call (time 1/2) 32.00 hrly bi weekly Functions as a first or second assistant in surgical procedures. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of the perioperative patient. Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure the highest level of care is provided. Anticipates assigned case and surgeon's needs. May function concurrently in the scrub technician role. Uses advanced skills of patient positioning, retraction, suturing and wound dressing under direct supervision of the operating surgeon.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Positions the patient based on instructions from the surgeon, including tasks such as padding specific pressure points, ensuring that circulation is not impeded, protecting the patient's nerves, utilizing fracture tables and head/body stabilizers, and any other necessary equipment.
- Ensures proper temperature of patient and discusses it the anesthesia personnel and methods employed to maintain the desired temperature range.
- Providing visualization of the operative site by appropriate placement and securing of retractors with or without padding, packing with sponges, digital manipulation of tissue suctioning, irrigating, or sponging manipulation of suture materials (e.g., loops, tags, running sutures)
- Utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis including permanent, clamping and/or cauterizing vessels or tissue, tying and/or ligating clamped vessels or tissue, applying hemostatic clips and placing local hemostatic agents, applying tourniquets, vessel loops non-crushing clamps and direct digital pressure demonstrating awareness of the indications/contraindications for use with knowledge of side effects of extended use
- Participate in volume replacement or auto transfusion techniques
- Utilizing appropriate techniques in assisting surgeon with closure of body planes and applying appropriate dressings and drainage system.
