The Bureau of Information & Telecommunications (BIT) strives to partner and collaborate with clients in support of their missions through innovative information technology consulting, systems, and solutions.
The Accounting Assistant is a key position within the BIT Finance Team. This position will assist in the financial success of BIT, which has an annual budget of nearly $85 million and 400 personnel. BIT consists of five divisions - Administration, Data Centers, Development, Telecommunications, and South Dakota Public Broadcasting. This position is part of the Administration division and falls under the finance team of five, three accountants, and two assistants. Each member of the team works in cooperation with one another to ensure the financial success of BIT. This is key accounting support position with room for career growth. This position will have the opportunity to help implement the state's new state-of-the-art accounting system.
Primary duties include:
- auditing and coding all direct vouchers, travel vouchers, and non-cash vouchers for the department;
- tracking central services payments;
- updating various databases;
- entering items into the state accounting system;
- preparing daily deposits;
- assisting vendors and staff with questions on payments or travel questions;
- sorting and preparing files for storage per records retention;
- maintaining up-to-date knowledge of procedures, polices, and laws relevant to financial operations.
BIT accountants work together and receive training to comply with all regulations and requirements. Work in this position meets the requirements for CPA licensure for employees who wish to seek the designation. Flexible remote work options are available. The preferred location for this position is Pierre, but other locations in the state of South Dakota are possible for the right candidate. Little to no travel is required for this position for incumbents who reside in Pierre. If working remotely, some travel to Pierre for meetings and training will be required.
Licenses and Certifications: None are required, but employees have the opportunity to qualify for CPA licensure and CGFM certification if interested.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A degree in accounting or accounting experience preparing invoices, billings, and/or vouchers and financial reconciliations is preferred, but not required.
