The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is recruiting for Police Officers to work at Joint Base Charleston, SC.
***This is a Federal Government civilian position – no active or reserve duty commitments***
DUTIES:
• Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction.
• Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) or the scope of the higher-level detectives assigned to the Squadron. Complaints range from simple inquiries to incidents/complaints requiring investigations that are relatively short in duration and end with the detention of a suspect.
• Serves as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces. Executes the Quick Reaction Checklists (QRC) to ensure proper execution of routine, emergency and alarm responses.
• Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g. active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS).
KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing
• Incumbent must qualify and remain qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties
• Must be able to qualify in the use of required weapons, as they will be required to in performance of duties
• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the necessary and required security clearance
• Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth, and required initial and annual Department of the Air Force Civilian Police (DACP) Physical Agility Test
• Required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
• Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall
• Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor/ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and/or chemical protective equipment, ( e.g. respirator mask)
• Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment
• Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, (e.g. Employing "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques as a member of a small team is required)
******The Physical Agility Test (PAT) is a condition of employment standard which requires applicants to successfully pass the established standards push-ups 19 (within 2 minutes), and 1.5-mile run (17:30 or less). ***
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (KSA’s):
• Knowledge of police officer procedures and operating methods to perform the full range of police officer activities independently
• Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and preventing unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced
• Knowledge of rights of detained individuals and organizational rules regarding the appropriated use of force to be used in the apprehension of persons
• Knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques for functioning as a quick reaction force team member in support of integrated base defense of the operation of specialized weapons, security systems, and equipment
• Knowledge of the tactics, techniques, and procedures for preparation and response to catastrophic events, enemy attacks, and relate threats to installations
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community management, employees, and other law enforcement agencies
• Ability to operate an incident management system
