Chemours is seeking an
Online Analyzer and Analytical Chemist to join our growing
Advanced Performance Materials team! This position will report directly to the
Manufacturing Technology Manager at our
Fayetteville, NC location.
The work will primarily involve providing day-to-day support to operations and the manufacturing lab facilities by providing guidance to the technicians in maintaining accurate analytical methods and results, including instrument troubleshooting as needed. This includes both on-stream analyzers and lab instrumentation. The individual will be involved in the implementation of new analytical equipment and the development of new analytical methods as the need arises.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:- Serve as the primary liaison between operations, process engineering, and the manufacturing lab on quality control results.
- Providing technical support for online analyzer technicians.
- Selection of new analytical equipment (lab and on-stream) and partnering with the Engineering team to implement the equipment.
- Use and maintenance of an NMR Spectrometer.
- Providing technical support of the analytical instruments used for routine analysis in the Monomers manufacturing quality control lab.
- Development and refining of quality control test methods used in support of the manufacturing processes.
- Routine monitoring of analytical methods to ensure consistent and statistical accuracy via measurement system analyses such as Gage R&R analysis.
- Creation of the analytical standards (liquids and liquefied gases) used for routine calibrations in the manufacturing lab.
- Routine monitoring of quality data from the lab to look for abnormal results and determine the reason (process upset, equipment failure, sample cross contamination, etc.).
- Initiate and/or review changes to improve the safety, accuracy, consistency, or cycle time of the various lab methods in operation.
- Analysis of non-routine samples to assist with troubleshooting of manufacturing problems or in conjunction with manufacturing plant tests / product trials.
- Ad-hoc identification of unknown impurities using GC-Mass Spectroscopy, NMR analysis, FTIR, and/or ICP.
- Support PSM, EHS, as well as continuous improvement efforts. Participate in and lead Internal Quality audits to maintain the plant's ISO 9000 certification.
- Seldom off-hours support for the plant.
The following is required for this role:- Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, or equivalent experience matching the job responsibilities outlined above.
- Minimum 3 years of work experience as an analytical chemist; experience as a lab technician running routine analyses is not applicable
- Experience with development of analytical test methods, including indirect measurements of compounds using a proxy.
- Knowledge of an array of analytical instrumentation including, but not limited to:
- Liquid/Gas Chromatography
- FTIR (across variety of samples - solids and liquids)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma spectroscopy (ICP)
- Mass Spectroscopy
- NMR spectroscopy
The following is preferred for this role:- Knowledge of on-stream analyzers in a manufacturing environment, including, IR and GC.
- Experience using LIMS (Fisher ThermoScientific), process data historian, and Minitab.
- Experience with administration and method development within software solutions such as Atlas, Chromeleon, and Waters.
- Network communications involving on-stream analyzers
- Experience in the safe handling of highly toxic materials in a lab environment
- Knowledge of organic synthesis and organofluorine chemistry
- Six Sigma certified as Green Belt
- Process Safety Management (PSM) experience
