Instructional Systems Designer and Competency Mapping Specialist
The Opportunity:

The synergy between instructional design and competency mapping is vital for creating effective, targeted training programs. Competency mapping provides the framework and clarity on development needs, while instructional design translates these into actionable, engaging learning experiences. Together, they ensure training initiatives align with organizational goals and meet learners' specific needs, driving both individual and organizational success.

If you aim to develop strategic, data-driven, and highly effective training programs, understanding and leveraging the connection between instructional design and competency mapping is essential.

On our team, you'll collaborate with aviation Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to conduct comprehensive competency mapping, identifying the specific skills and knowledge required for each role. Using this framework, you'll play a crucial role in helping identify, define, and develop the skills and behaviors necessary for success in various aviation-related roles. This work ensures that people possess the competencies aligned with the organization's strategic goals, enhancing overall performance and driving organizational success.

You Have:
  • 8+ years of experience with instructional design
  • Experience developing DoD flying training curricula, including Air Force flying training curriculum
  • Experience as a military instructor
  • Experience collaborating with SMEs to improve training programs
  • Ability to learn about and help develop new processes to enhance training program effectiveness
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree


Nice If You Have:
  • Experience working with and developing competency frameworks, conducting gap analyses, and developing strategies to bridge competency gaps
  • Possession of excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Human Resource Development, Organizational Development, or Industrial-Organizational Psychology

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $67,700.00 to $154,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
