Job DescriptionThis OpportunityWSP currently has an exciting Engineering Project Manager career opportunity to support our Mountain Region Design Center providing project management, project engineering, and project controls support for mining infrastructure and various other industrial EPCM-type projects. This full-time position is preferably located in Salt Lake City, Utah, or Phoenix, Arizona. In-office expectations are 3 days per week with the remainder work from home with occasional travel of approximately 10%. That said, concessions can be made for the right candidate.
The full-time Engineering Project Manager will lead a team of technical resources to execute industrial EPCM (engineering, procurement and construction management) and study projects primarily focused on mining, minerals processing, water treatment, chemical processing and other heavy industrial projects. This position will provide a broad range of career-enhancing exposure to various projects with teams and clients located all over North America and world-wide.

Your Impact - Acting as Project Manager on certain clients, communicating with clients to understand their objectives and assembling and leading a team of resources to successfully achieve those objectives within scope, schedule, budget, and safety requirements.
- Being the primary point of contact with clients and ensuring satisfactory progress is being made and, if necessary, promptly implementing corrective actions.
- Coordinating a multi-disciplinary team of design professionals including process, mechanical, structural, electrical, civil and others. Ensure their technical needs are met and that the teams, wherever they are located, are well-coordinated and performing to plan.
- Acting as Project Engineer on certain projects, reporting to a Project Manager to provide discipline coordination activities.
- Monitoring, with the assistance of a Project Controls Lead, all projects health and performance. Understand and take action based on key performance indicators like SPI, CPI, engineering schedule, etc.
- Report on project performance to the office Operations Manager and Engineering Manager, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
- Performing project related field tasks, attending key meetings, coordinating and overseeing construction contractors, providing project related field documentation, and performing a variety of technical activities during project planning, design, and construction.
- Developing and maintaining a project-specific risk register and proactively managing issues from kick-off through closeout.
- Develop a fit-for-purpose Project Management Plan using the office's go-bys and templates. Execute the project to this plan, including all aspects of project controls, document management, CAD standards, etc.
- Guide and assist Project Controls with development of an engineering schedule, obtaining input from the various disciplines, and then holding each accountable to the baseline schedule.
- Provide guidance for Cost Estimating Studies, including coordinating disciplines' preliminary design and MTOs, as well as cost estimating.
- Coordinating technical input for Proposals and/or obtaining technical input from discipline engineers.
- Author technical reports where required.
- Coordinating the preparation and non-technical review of deliverables such as drawings, specifications.
- Will travel to project or client sites primarily in the US. Approximately 5% overnight travel
Who You AreRequired Qualifications - BS degree in engineering or closely related degree.
- Minimum 5 - 7 years + of relevant engineering or engineering project management experience.
- Leadership and team-building skills, including relevant soft skills and remote work team management experience.
- Our ideal candidate has a background in mining or heavy industry project management
- Experience assembling and managing project teams to complete contract requirements, while ensuring safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals are achieved.
- Understanding of engineering consulting for industrial projects in the $1 - 50 million CAPEX size range.
- Experience being responsible for project financial performance and tracking and reporting on expenditures as well as forecasting estimated costs to complete.
- Self- motivated with excellent verbal/written communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
- Ability to liaise between designers, owners, contractors, and end-users.
- Certifications preferred (PE, PMP, MBA, etc.).
- Ability and willingness to travel to project or client sites primarily in the US. Approximately 5% overnight travel
