Job Overview:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for overseeing the sourcing and procurement of materials and components within a specific commodity category, ensuring cost-effective and efficient supply chain operations. This role works closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to drive supplier performance, optimize inventory, mitigate risks, and manage commodity strategies that align with the organization's business objectives.

Responsibilities
    • Commodity Sourcing and Procurement: Lead sourcing and procurement activities for assigned commodity groups, including raw materials, components, or services. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable and cost-effective supply chains.
    • Cost Management and Optimization: Develop and implement cost-saving strategies and continuous improvement programs. Negotiate prices, contracts, and terms with suppliers to optimize cost structures while maintaining quality standards.
    • Supplier Relationship Management: Collaborate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery, high-quality standards, and continuous improvement in performance. Monitor supplier performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions when necessary.
    • Inventory Management: Work closely with inventory and logistics teams to ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained for materials and components. Minimize excess inventory and reduce supply chain bottlenecks.
    • Risk Management: Identify and manage risks within the supply chain, including supply disruptions, price volatility, and supplier reliability. Develop contingency plans to mitigate potential supply chain disruptions.
    • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product development, engineering, operations, and finance teams to align commodity strategies with organizational goals and ensure smooth coordination across departments.
    • Market Analysis and Trends: Monitor and analyze market trends, commodity pricing, and supply chain dynamics to anticipate changes in the marketplace. Provide strategic recommendations to senior management based on market intelligence.
    • Compliance and Sustainability: Ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies, legal requirements, and sustainability objectives. Support initiatives related to ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility.
    • Reporting and Analytics: Prepare regular reports and dashboards on commodity performance, supplier status, cost savings, and market conditions for senior leadership and stakeholders.


Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (Master's degree or certifications like CPSM, APICS, or CPIM preferred).
    • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management, procurement, or commodity management, ideally in a manufacturing or production environment.
    • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated experience in supplier relationship management and contract negotiations.
    • In-depth knowledge of commodity markets, pricing, and global sourcing strategies.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with supply chain management software (ERP, SAP, Oracle, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
    • Experience in strategic sourcing and category management.
    • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
    • Familiarity with global supply chain logistics and trade regulations.
