The Region Vice President interacts with local management, corporate management, employees, and vendors to provide direction and guidance related to operational and procedural activities in accordance with goals and objectives. This position oversees all operational aspects of the business within the assigned market area. Region VP oversees the management of the day-to-day operations and establishes performance and productivity metrics, and operating procedures, and ensures standards are met.
Responsibilities of Position:- Manage the day-to-day operations of the market and provide daily support to managers in ensuring quality and budget performance.
- Conduct and facilitate weekly/monthly operational meetings to ensure action plans, P & L, and organizational objectives meet or exceed expectations.
- Develop business opportunities and relationships including potential acquisitions or new service offerings that complement current operations.
- Analyze, monitor, review, and recommend cost-effective measures in accordance with the goals and objectives of the market.
- Respond, recommend, and take proactive measures to increase profitability within the market.
- Maintain positive relationships with Area President, Area Controller, Area Management Group, and Corporate.
- Monitor budget and operating metrics and require the diagnosing and improving of processes, procedures, and performance.
- Manage direct reports, including hiring, training, performance management, counseling, safety, etc.
- Interact with customers and local, state, and federal government employees to resolve customer service concerns, and ensure regulatory compliance standards are met.
- Work with the maintenance department to monitor and improve fleet utilization, repair, and maintenance costs.
- Forecast, implement, and monitor hauling, landfill, and recycling budget and business plans.
- Monitor and enforce quality and safety standards and ensure all compliance goals are met or exceeded.
- Initiate regular P & L reviews to ensure that budgets are met.
- Develop and implement programs for optimal equipment utilization, maintenance and labor, and material costs.
- Approve expenses and manage the budget for the operations department.
- Formulate short and long-term goals and action plans with the Area President
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management.
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility:- This position will manage 1 to 10 employees.
- This position will oversee and direct other managers.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:- Knowledge of the waste industry including hauling, landfill, and recycling operations.
- Current knowledge of safety regulations, requirements, and compliance laws (DOT, OSHA, EPA).
- Strong business and financial acumen.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of the area.
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Computer skills; proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications; AS400, and Lotus Notes applications a plus.
- Excellent customer service and personnel management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a market and the desire to help the organization improve and grow.
- Process and results-oriented with a commitment to organizational success.
- Ability to prioritize work and the placement of personnel, equipment, and material.
- Must have excellent negotiation skills.
Physical Requirements in a Regular workday:- Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 20lbs.
- Frequently sitting/standing/walking in office environment.
- Occasionally working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
- Occasionally working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, other airborne matter.
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects: - Have a valid Class B CDL, preferred.
- Ability to travel between offices, as required.
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
- Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver's license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
