Your Opportunity

Stantec Fredericton Structural Department is looking for an energetic and team oriented Registered Professional Engineer. As a well-rounded professional, the successful candidate will have an important role within Stantec. As a registered Professional Engineer, the candidate will be responsible to work on various industrial structural designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. This role involves structural engineering designs under minimal supervision, supported by a knowledgeable and experienced team, making sound structural engineering decisions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
The candidate will work either independently on smaller projects, or under the supervision of a Senior Engineer for large scale projects; for industrial engineering projects such as pulp & paper and tissue, power generation and transmission, oil and gas, mining, food and beverage, and composite wood products. This role may also involve design or evaluation of bridges and other transportation structures.
The candidate will perform a variety of tasks including development of plans and designs, analyses, report writing, coordinating with other disciplines, and other tasks in the production of contract technical documents for the analysis or construction of structures and facilities.
The candidate will also nurture existing or build new Stantec client relationships. This will include business development aspects such as client meetings, site visits to assess project scopes, and assist with proposal preparations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all structural systems and components relating to various structural systems.
- Develop designs through sketches, hand calculations, structural analysis software models, and other visual formats.
- Prepare and review documentation in various structural phases including site plans, general equipment arrangements, conceptual and detailed structural developments, detailed component design, and construction level assembly information.
- Check designs prepared by team members.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
- Review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.
- Prepare and coordinate project specifications including construction documents.
- Attend project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or clients.
- Participate in value engineering and cost estimating.
- Perform calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
- Perform on-site design services and field support.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
- Comply with Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field.
- Mentor and professional development of EIT's, while taking an active role in their own career development.
- Help identify and develop new standards, specifications, design tools, and procedures for the structural group.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Registered P. Eng. with APEGNB or eligible to apply for P.Eng. licensure with minimum of 5-10 years of related work experience.
- Strong communication, coordination, and time management skills.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently.
- Ability to apply practical knowledge and make sound judgement to analyze issues, interpret information and select methods and solutions to resolve design problems within stand practice guidelines. Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBCC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards. Experience with heavy industrial structures is highly valued. This includes structural steel design and reinforced concrete design, for both substructures and superstructures.
- Understand all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
- Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
- Participate in project team setting and engage in creative and critical thinking.
- Field experience is an asset.
- Enthusiastic to expand structural engineering knowledge and keen to work in a team environment.
- Willingness to work on multiple jobs/projects at a time.
- Knowledge of and ability to use industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, SAFI, SAP 2000, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of mathematical computational tools such as MathCad and the ability to perform detailed structural calculations within this environment.
- Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in French (written and verbal) will be considered an asset.
Education and Experience
- Minimum bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Canada with minimum of 5-10 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on industrial buildings and structures, including superstructures and foundations.
