WHO WE ARE The mission of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (Los Angeles Tourism) is to improve the quality of life for all Angelenos through the economic and community benefits of tourism. Representing over 1,000 local tourism-related businesses, Los Angeles Tourism is a non-profit organization responsible for promoting the City of Angels as one of the world's premier travel destinations. Through its global brand marketing and sales efforts, Los Angeles Tourism works to inspire visitors to immerse themselves in the kinds of unscripted moments and meaningful experiences that can only happen in LA.
THE OPPORTUNITY The Senior Vice President, Global Communications will lead our global communications strategy to strengthen brand positioning, support key industry and legislative priorities, and elevate organizational visibility across multiple audiences. This role involves overseeing corporate communications, managing global PR agencies, and building and leading a high-performing team. The ideal candidate brings significant media experience, public speaking skills, and a strategic mindset to drive awareness and engagement.
WHAT YOU WILL DO - Develop a comprehensive global communications strategy that: (1) reinforces our overall brand positioning; (2) specifically amplifies our brand and product pillars to drive visitor demand; (3) elevates positive industry awareness among residents and community leaders; (4) supports key legislative priorities at the local, state, and national level; and (5) supports the organization's efforts around sustainability and workforce development. (30%)
- Elevate the corporate communications function by: (1) developing appropriate content and providing senior executives with opportunities to speak at highly visible events to enhance the organization's stature as an industry leader; (2) oversee the content for our annual Market Outlook Forum, and (3) increase Member and key stakeholder awareness of our major programming efforts and important industry developments through periodic communications such as company newsletters. (15%)
- Oversee the management of all global P.R. agencies to: (1) ensure full alignment with the organization's earned media strategy to achieve our annual media goal, feature story percentage, and Tier 1 media delivery goal, (2) establish/monitor annual performance criteria, and (3) conduct annual agency reviews to ensure that Los Angeles has the strongest representation in each market. (15%)
- Create a "best in class" Global Communications team by assessing organizational structure relative to our evolving annual business strategy, making appropriate adjustments as necessary, and hiring, developing, and retaining the right talent to meet the company's needs. (15%)
- Support the Chief Sales Officer and Chief Industry Relations Officer to ensure their unique communication needs are effectively met, while serving as a steward of the organization's "one brand/one voice" communications strategy. (10%)
- Assume responsibility for the organization's crisis management process, ensuring that all appropriate team members among the Executive Team are knowledgeable of the Crisis Plan and prepared to execute it. Proactively identify emerging trends that could impact our destination and/or industry to incorporate them into our crisis management strategy as needed. Actively coordinate with peers at the local, state, and national level to share best practices and ensure alignment on key messages/messaging. (10%)

SOME OTHER THINGS YOU MAY DO - Serve as the corporate spokesperson, standing in for our Executive Team if needed.
- Review external stakeholder communications to identify opportunities to enhance/elevate the messaging.
- Stay current on emerging trends in Los Angeles and incorporate them into messaging such as "What's New" as appropriate.
- Regularly oversee the preparation of speeches and talking points for the Executive team as needed.
- Ensure that all programming is delivered cost-effectively and on budget.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED - Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of 10-12 years relevant experience required.
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license and be able to drive a vehicle for work-related travel as needed and as applicable to the position.
- Must be willing to partake in a comprehensive background check including a drug test in accordance with applicable laws.
- Willingness to travel at least 25% of the time, with 50% of the travel being international and 50% domestic.
- Exceptional public speaking skills, including extensive media experience.
- High level of emotional intelligence and situational awareness.
- Significant experience working directly with elected officials and other civic leaders.
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Dependable, great attitude, highly motivated, and a team player.
- Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively across various departments.
- Ability to work in a changing environment.
COMPENSATION RANGE Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.
$220,000 - $250,000 annually
