Job Description
RK&K is hiring an experienced Public Involvement / Communications Specialist (PI/CS) in Baltimore, MD (or other RK&K office as approved). The specialist will work on a wide variety of projects. The position will require an understanding of public relations and outreach, specifically how to engage and inform the public of about projects within their communities. Knowledge of roadway, transit/rail, utilities, and site development work is a plus.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in creating communications plans or build upon plan outline to expand into wider outreach.
  • Lead the execution of tasks and actions within the communications plan, and work with the various responsible offices to confirm or help with their execution.
  • Attend technical project meetings as a representative of public involvement in-house team, give presentations about the communications plan, attend briefings for stakeholders, and attending small group task meetings to confirm communications plan execution.
  • Prepare, oversee, and review the development of the following content and design products: website content, fact sheets, e-blasts, social media content, stakeholder toolkits, infographics, brochures, press releases, multi-language ads, signage, presentations, and employee communications materials.
  • Assist with oversight and management of photography and videography as needed for use with the variety of elements in the communications plan.
  • Oversee site logistics for public meetings (virtual and in-person) including finding locations, preparing presentation materials/display boards, performing site visits, coordinating staff participation, managing production of materials such as name tags, sign-in sheets, refreshments, directional signage, etc.
  • Support any stakeholder engagement, including community event planning and logistics for pop-up events and/or brand advocate events.
  • Track the various communications tactics and their effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare thorough communications and outreach reports summarizing all communications and public engagement efforts around a project.

Required Skills and Experience
  • 4 to 10 years of relevant experience working in a public involvement, public relations, or communications environment
  • Required to commute/travel to various site locations up to 25%
  • Exceptional communication (verbal/written), copywriting, editing and organizational skills for content development
  • Experience across all communications channels including digital, print, video and presentation formats
  • High proficiency in use of social media and content for these platforms
  • Ability to multi-task and deliver in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and collaborate throughout organization
  • Self-starter with an ability to work independently and as part of a team, while building consensus, take general concepts and develop them into detailed and relevant actions
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or related area

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of the A/E industry
  • Background as a consultant
