SUMMARY: The Senior Database Administrator must have knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle to manage the databases for the Distribution Center. The Senior Database Administrator ensures the databases are available, secure, and stable. They monitor the databases for performance as well as validating the data for accuracy and relevance. They oversee performance and tuning on the databases to ensure fast response for the users. They perform regular updates to keep up with ever-changing computer technologies. They also work with the Software Development team to help design and maintain database structures that provide informative and relevant data to employees throughout our facilities and organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform ongoing Database Administration functions for support and enhancement.
- Monitor the Microsoft and Oracle databases for continued operation with emphasis on performance, database growth, system bottlenecks, deadlocks, and user sessions.
- Ensure that backup procedures are implemented according to planned design.
- Perform monitoring, tuning and consistency checks of databases.
- Work with the entire Software Development team on the design of new database structures to support the ever-changing business needs.
- Offer support and suggestions on efficiency to developers, with an emphasis on optimizing indexes, table design, and other database elements.
- Review developer's scripts and command files when readying application for test and production.
- Implement scripts to automate batch processing.
- Execute processes to extract and load data between databases in different environments.
- Maintain and manage multiple databases for Development, Testing, and Special Projects.
- Maintain direct cross-database links and inter-database gateways.
- Administer database middleware software, processes, and procedures.
- Analyze system monitoring reports to make recommendations on hardware and operating system needs.
- Validate recovery procedures on a regular basis to ensure integrity of the backups and procedures.
- Handle problem resolution, reporting, and tracking.
- Maintain separate test and production images of source code for tables, procedures, triggers, etc.; Work with vendor provided utilities to facilitate this task.
- Participate in the on-call rotation for afterhours support.
- Document standards, procedures, and naming conventions for database development and usage.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Operations Personnel as needed to ensure continued operation as upgrades and patches are planned and installed for all database systems.
- Participate in future planning strategy discussions.
- Participate in annual database education and training classes.
- Help in training users and other systems administration personnel.
- Special or as needed duties assigned by Manager.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 14, 15, and 16.
- Knowledge of Oracle 18c Enterprise Server and later versions Oracle Transparent Gateways.
- Strong analytical skills needed to determine issues in existing systems.
- Strong SQL programming skills.
- The ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work effectively in fast paced environment is a must.

- Knowledge of Linux operating system, command language and shell scripting a plus.
- Previous Warehouse Management System experience a plus.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ideal candidates will have at least a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and 8-10 years of relevant professional experience.
