POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Company (MPC) is currently accepting applications for an experienced Mechanic to work within its Marine Repair Facility (MRF) in Mt. Vernon, IN. Mechanics are critical members of the MRF, and we are looking for individuals who can contribute to our inclusive work environment.
Diesel engine experience including overhaul experience is required. Incumbent must have strong troubleshooting skills and be able to work jobs from start to finish. Incumbent needs a wide range of skills and experience including hydraulics, HVAC, sewage treatment systems, basic electrical knowledge. Mechanics are required to work both indoors and outdoors, in inclement weather, and may be required to work in confined spaces. Travel from the MRF to vessels in various locations, as well as other MPC facilities, may be required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preventive maintenance and repair of the following shipboard systems i.e., Diesel Engine (main propulsion and electrical generation) Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Caterpillar, EMD, ALCO and John Deere.
Marine reduction gears and clutches.
Pumps of all types: potable water, fuel, oil, fire and bilge pumps.
HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Hydraulic steering systems.
Mechanical air movers: stack fans, blowers, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license required.
Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card required.
Up to 30% of travel may be required.
Must be able to pass a preemployment written test, hands on test, drug test, and background check.
DOT physical required.
Vocational/technical school training is preferred.
5 years’ experience in diesel mechanics and/or boat maintenance is preferred.
