A leading Specialty Insurance Company is currently seeking a Litigation Counsel to provide legal support across varied lines of business across all of North America. Reporting directly to the SVP, Deputy General Counsel, this individual will be joining a specialized team to primarily focus on First Party Property and Extra-Contractual Liability litigation. This position entails managing all litigation matters from inception through trial, managing external counsel, and working collaboratively across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Support and provide legal counsel to the Claims department on complex litigation matters, as well as ad-hoc legal matters as they arise.
- Manage and work closely with external counsel to ensure timely and excellent written documentation, oversee all pre-litigation matters, and advocate on behalf of the company and affiliates.
- Act as a business partner, collaborating closely on a variety of responsibilities, including advising on acquisitions/strategic investments, developing new business relationships and insurance products, supporting marketing activity, and other business objectives.
- Oversee department initiatives and minimize legal risks, work closely with senior leadership to ensure the business's goals are achieved.
- Work cross-functionally with internal business teams, including Claims, Underwriting, Finance, HR, Technology, and more.
- Collaborate and provide legal oversight on special activities within Claims and other specialized business units.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor or equivalent; active Bar Membership in any U.S. State Bar
- 4+ years of litigation management experience, either in-house with an Insurance Company or in a Law Firm.
- Deep familiarity and experience within Property & Casualty Insurance litigation; especially first-party property.
- Analytical and advocacy skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage and support paralegal and administrative staff.
