Job Details

Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing accounting, job costing, contract administration, and financial systems for a corporate office and its associated operations. This role includes managing monthly consolidation processes, preparing financial statements, performing reconciliations, ensuring internal controls, and supervising accounting staff. Reporting directly to the President, the Controller plays a key leadership role within the finance team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee project and accounting processes within financial software and other related systems, including resolving employee issues and coordinating with software support teams.
  • Manage month-end close tasks such as balance sheet reconciliations, job cost reviews, journal entries, revenue recognition, internal control assessments, consolidations, and distribution of financial reports.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, including managing the chart of accounts, defining accounting roles and responsibilities, and implementing fraud prevention measures.
  • Conduct job cost analysis, review WIP reports, and identify cost variances. Address discrepancies and implement corrective actions in financial systems, ensuring compliance with revenue recognition standards.
  • Review and manage billing processes, ensuring adherence to client requirements, coordination with project managers, and compliance with industry-specific methodologies.
  • Oversee treasury functions, including payment approvals (e.g., checks, ACH, and wires), maintaining security protocols, and coordinating with financial institutions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including payroll, sales, use, and property taxes.
  • Supervise accounts payable and payroll processes, ensuring streamlined workflows for expense recording, reconciliation, and payments.
  • Collaborate with teams to establish and improve accounting system controls and processes.
  • Coordinate preparation of external audit materials, tax documentation, and other financial reports.
  • Interpret policies and regulations affecting internal accounting procedures and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 4–10 years of experience in construction, electrical contracting, or similar industries.
  • Strong understanding of accounting and financial systems. CPA license is not required but is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and QuickBooks Enterprise.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead accounting teams.
