Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides competent, compassionate nursing care to patients and families under the direct guidance and supervision of a physician and Nurse Manager. The LPN collaborates with physicians and other staff members to ensure a quality-focused, customer-oriented workflow in the ambulatory practice. Additionally, the LPN serves as a resource to clinical and clerical support staff.
Key Responsibilities - Provide patient care: Administer physical care and emotional support to patients and families under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director.
- Nursing care planning: Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care and treatment plans.
- Documentation: Observe, report, and document relevant patient information in the electronic health record system according to Dermatology Service protocols.
- Patient education: Support and reinforce patient teaching plans and educate patients on proper medication usage.
- Wound care instruction: Provide patients with instructions on wound care.
- Medication administration: Administer medications within parameters defined by Dermatology Service following orientation.
- Perform nursing procedures: Carry out nursing procedures as defined by the Dermatology Service.
- Photography: Take photographs of patients with various skin conditions using diverse photographic techniques and equipment.
- Quality assurance: Participate in Quality Assurance activities and support peers in maintaining established care standards.
- Clinical triage: Handle urgent clinical calls, potentially scheduling appointments, including Telehealth consultations.
- Lab result communication: Inform patients about pathology, lab results, and care plans.
- In-Basket management: Monitor and manage biopsies through In-Basket messaging, ensuring timely therapy administration as directed by physicians.
- Clinical coverage: Provide clinical nursing support across Medical Dermatology specialty services.
- Prior authorizations: Obtain prior authorizations for medications as needed.
- Nursing practice development: Contribute to the development and implementation of new nursing practices.
- Equipment and supply management: Appropriately utilize and conserve equipment, order medical supplies, and maintain inventory levels.
- Team input: Provide input to the Nurse Manager on unit needs and participate in committees.
- Environmental maintenance: Ensure the physical environment is maintained according to safety protocols.
- Safety regulations: Establish and enforce annual fire and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with Joint Commission, OSHA, and hospital guidelines.
- Problem-solving: Troubleshoot routine and non-routine issues and take necessary corrective action.
- Growth and development knowledge: Demonstrate understanding of principles related to patient growth and development, providing age-appropriate care.
- Patient feedback: Gather and relay feedback from patients, families, and visitors to the Nurse Manager for continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications - Clinical knowledge: Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills; actively participates in continuing education programs.

Preferred Qualifications - Experience in dermatology or related specialty (preferred, but not required).
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Certifications Required: - Current state licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
