Join a dedicated team committed to delivering high-quality psychiatric and medical care to our patients. We are focused on creating a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that promotes recovery, quality of life, and effective discharge planning for those we serve. This role is integral to ensuring patients receive exceptional care tailored to their needs while meeting rigorous clinical and documentation standards.
As a Psychiatrist, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric and some medical services, including admission, evaluation, and treatment of patients. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans and facilitate discharge planning. Additionally, you will contribute to hospital performance improvement initiatives, document clinical actions within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and WinPharm pharmacy system, and participate in court hearings as an expert witness.
Primary Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
  • Perform patient admissions, including psychiatric evaluations, medication orders, diagnostic testing, and treatment plans.
  • Prescribe evidence-based psychiatric and medical medications, considering safety, effectiveness, and cost.
  • Respond to emergency medical conditions and manage seclusion or restraint orders as necessary.
  • Document treatment in the EHR, including psychiatric evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries, adhering to regulatory and hospital standards.
  • Prepare court reports in collaboration with the treatment team and provide expert testimony.
  • Engage in ongoing evaluations of patients to optimize safety, improve quality of life, and support timely discharge planning.
Team Collaboration:
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning and discharge meetings.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, administrative leaders, and external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and significant other concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Contribute to hospital committees and performance improvement activities as needed.
Coverage and On-Call Responsibilities:
  • Provide coverage for other physicians and participate in the on-call rotation.
  • Respond to emergency calls, manage psychiatric/medical situations, and coordinate care with external agencies when necessary.
  • Complete seclusion and restraint assessments and required orders in compliance with hospital policies.
Performance Improvement and Compliance:
  • Participate in hospital-wide performance improvement activities and special assignments, such as committees or staff education.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and applicable Federal and State regulations, including HIPAA, EMTALA, CMS, and hospital bylaws.
  • Abide by ethical standards set by the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, and other governing bodies.
Documentation:
  • Complete psychiatric evaluations within 24 hours of admission.
  • Document individualized progress notes daily, highlighting patient responses, treatment progress, and continued hospitalization justification.
  • Complete discharge summaries within 30 days of discharge.
  • Authenticate telephone orders and ensure compliance with hospital timelines.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of medical school and an approved residency in Psychiatry (or at least two years of an approved residency training program).
  • Current and active medical license in the state of Kansas.
  • Knowledge and experience in psychiatric and medical medication management.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems, Dragon dictation software, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, hospital staff, and external agencies.

Professional Expectations:
We value a positive, cooperative, self-motivated, and professional attitude in all team members. Successful candidates will exhibit strong teamwork, flexibility, and a commitment to resolving challenges collaboratively. The ability to work with others constructively and maintain composure in high-stress situations is essential.
