Job Description: The Operating Room at UPMC Western Maryland is hiring a Full-Time Surgical Technologist to join our team\nThis position includes rotating weekends, holidays, and on-call.\nWe are offering Sign-On Bonuses to eligible Surgical Technologist hires. Amount depends on level of experience and commitment term\n The title and pay rate of this position may vary depending upon years of relevant experience. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the career ladder based on their individual experience and education. Pay rates shown are for Surgical Technologist job title. \n As a Surgical Technologist, you will perform a variety of tasks in an operating room that assist the surgical team. You may arrange sterile setup for surgical procedures; pass instruments, sponge and suture to surgeons and surgical assistants; prepare sterile supplies; assist in cleanup of the operating room; check placement and operation of equipment; and check and restock operating room. During surgical procedures you may be responsible for special trays, graft materials, and record patient data.\n Responsibilities:\n\n\n Before an operation, help to prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions. Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment.\n\n\n Adjust and check equipment to ensure it is working properly.\n\n\n Prepare patients for surgery by wash, shave, and ensure aseptic incision sites.\n\n\n May transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.\n\n\n Assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.\n\n\n During surgery, efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants.\n\n\n Hold retractors or instruments, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site under the supervision of the surgeon and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.\n\n\n Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and helps apply dressings.\n\n\n Ensure all medications are labeled and handed to surgeon according to established policies and procedures.\n\n\n After surgery, may help transfer patients to the recovery room.\n\n\n Clean and restock the operating room.\n\n\n Ensure clean, safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards and aseptic technique.\n\n\n Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.\n\n\n Performs other duties as assigned.\n\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required.\nScrub Technician program/course or a related science or Health Science program/course is required or previous experience as an OR Tech may be substituted.\nCompletion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital or the military, preferred.\nEntry level job 0-2 years experience.\nSurgical specialties include but are not limited to: general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, neurosurgery, organ procurement and endoscopic surgical settings.\nAccess to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.\n\n Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
