As a member of RWJUH Rahway s senior management team, the CNO actively participates in the hospital's decision-making structure and process. This includes assuming an active leadership role with the hospital's governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management, and other clinical leaders.The CNO also maintains responsibility for patient care, management, resources management, Magnet, and fiscal management. At the senior leadership level, the CNO provides effective leadership and coordinates leaders to deliver nursing care, treatment, and services. Additionally, the CNO is responsible for the integration and coordination of all nursing practice and clinical services at RWJUH Rahway. Through inter-professional delivery models, the CNO drives patient care services across the continuum, ensuring the attainment of performance outcome initiatives and continuously assessing areas for quality improvement.Reports ToThe Chief Nursing Officer reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer of RWJUH Rahway with a matrixed reporting relationship to the System Chief Nursing OfficerQualificationsRegistered Nurse, licensed in the State of New Jersey is requiredMaster s degree required (MHA / MBA / MSN / MPH); Doctorate preferred (PhD or DNP).5 years of progressive nurse leadership experience is requiredEssential FunctionsDirects the delivery of nursing care, treatment, and servicesFunctions at the senior leadership level, providing effective leadership and coordinating leaders to deliver nursing care, treatment, and servicesAssumes an active leadership role with the hospital's governing body, senior leadership, medical staff, management, and other clinical leaders in the decision-making structure and processParticipates in defined and established meetings of the hospital's corporate leaders and other senior clinical and managerial leadersCoordinates the development and directs the implementation of hospital-wide programs, policies, and procedures that address the nursing care needs of the patient populationCoordinates the development and directs the implementation of an effective, ongoing program to measure, analyze, and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment, and servicesEstablishes guidelines for the delivery of nursing care, treatment, and servicesWrites standards of nursing practice for the hospital, nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services, nursing policies and procedures, and nurse staffing plansApproves nursing policies, nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services, and standards of nursing practice for the hospital before implementationImplements nursing policies, procedures, and standards that describe and guide how the staff provide nursing care, treatment, and servicesProvides access to all nursing policies, procedures, and standards to the nursing staff.Ensures provision of nursing services 24/7 with at least one registered nurse on site who provides or supervises the nursing servicesExercises final authority over staff who provide nursing care, treatment, and servicesFosters clinical integration across the continuum of patient care services provided by the hospitalCreates an environment that supports team morale, improved service, and the highest quality and safety standardsEstablishes a plan to measure and assess productivity, operational performance, patient throughput, and team member engagementDevelops and manages the nursing budget to allocate adequate resources and ensure operational and financial goal achievementMonitors and ensures compliance with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations.Participates in policy implementation and review discussions impacting nursing and patient servicesAttends and actively engages at Administrative Counsel, Board of Trustee, and Medical Staff MeetingsContinuously develops the Nursing/Patient Care Services team through support of the employee selection process, work assignments, performance evaluations, and staff developmentRecommends, supports, and participates in education services, programs of education, and trainingMaintains and supports clinical and educational relationships between the hospital and universities/schools of nursingPartner with medical school to foster quality, efficiently provided care.
