JOB SUMMARY:
Schedule: Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 4:30pm + on Call
The Certified Surgical Technician (CST) will be responsible for intraoperative anticipation and response to the needs of the surgeon and other team members by monitoring the sterile field and providing the required instruments or supplies. Performing tasks in the sterile field such as passing supplies, sponging or suctioning an operative site, preparing and cutting suture material, transferring and irrigating with fluids, transferring drugs within the sterile field, handling specimens, holding retractors and assisting the operating room circulator with counting sponges, needles, supplies and instruments. Required call commitment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Setting up the instruments and equipment that is required for the procedure
- Reviews upcoming surgical cases and takes inventory to ensure there are enough supplies for surgery
- Passing the Surgeon instruments and sterile supplies throughout the operation
- Taking a count of all surgical instruments and supplies prior to the operation
- Recounting surgical instruments and supplies at the end of the operation
- Maintaining an overall sterile environment throughout the surgery
- Don and doff surgical attire, including sterile gloves, gowns, and masks
- Cleans endoscopy scopes as needed
- Assists with transferring and positioning patients both to and from the surgical table
- Participates in stocking and restocking medical/surgical supplies
- Pulls cases for the next day
- Helps clean rooms after surgery to support a 30 minute or less turnover for surgical and a 15minute or less turnover for endoscopy cases
- May occasionally assist surgeons in other areas of the hospital
