Job Summary: Performs various radiology procedures in a variety of settings (ED, ortho, portable, C-arm, fluoroscopy) under the direct supervision of the Radiologist which may include radiology, computed tomography, mammography, and bone densitometry. Process and store images and complete all required documentation and paperwork. Provides direct patient care and prepares patients for examinations in professional manner. The technologist must be able to provide care based on the age specific needs of the patient and comply with the departments' protocols and procedures. All required continuing education and training to maintain licensure must be completed and the technologist must remain proficient on department equipment.
Job Responsibilities: - Greets patients, explains procedures to patients, answers their questions, shows patient to changing room and assists when necessary
- For ED/med surg patients, notifies nurse patient will be leaving the unit, ensures they are unhooked from all monitoring equipment, patient passport has been filled out by nurse for med/surg patients, ensures they are appropriately changed for exam, and have necessary ancillary equipment such as O2
- Prepares exams rooms to receive patients and ensures the equipment is clean, functioning properly, and all supplies are readily available and ready for use
- Prepares patients for exams including getting them changed as required, removing items that could cause artifacts prior to imaging
- Utilizes ALARA principles at all times, performs all requested routine and specialty diagnostic radiology exams, and shields every patient when possible
- Produces diagnostic images with accurate positioning and optimizes image quality with appropriate technique selection
- Closes out exams and sends images for interpretation
- Monitors and stocks radiology supplies, consistently checks for expired items, and performs necessary QC and documents when required
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance requirements and follows shut down, warm up and QC schedules as appropriate
- Performs basic office duties including but not limited to: answering the phone, scheduling radiology exams accurately, assisting with obtaining protocols, ensuring prior authorizations are obtained when necessary, sending images to other facilities and creating discs when requested
- Performs necessary record keeping for sending images and scanning documents into PACS and EMR
- Takes call as requested and is always available/reachable during on call hours. Must be within 30 minutes of the hospital when on call
