JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Payroll Specialist
REPORTS TO: Accounting Supervisor
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Degree in accounting preferred
• 5 years experience in payroll
• Basic computer skills
• Good oral, written, organizational and communication skills
• Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the public and other employees of the school system
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for all aspects of payroll such as computation of time-worked, absences, balancing and posting to the general ledger, maintaining and balancing vendor deductions, etc.
• Responsible for producing and distributing payroll checks and direct deposit statements by deadline.
• Responsible for transmitting ACH file to the bank by 5:00 p.m. 3 days prior to payday.
• Responsible for polling of time clocks and enter facing information into accounting software
• Assist employees with benefit changes, problems, etc.
• Responsible for all documentation associated with a monthly payroll and procedures that are in accordance with Board policy and State/Federal guidelines.
• Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of employee benefit correspondence, manual and packets
• Responsible for meeting with new employees explaining and verifying benefit choices
• Process verification of employment
• Knowledge and understanding of all various federal/State laws pertaining to payroll, benefits and human resources such as FMLA, COBRA, HIPPAA, etc.
• Responsible for processing all monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax deposits and returns in a timely manner.
• Responsible for processing W-2's and corresponding reports along with 1099's
• Responsible for processing of LEAPS for the state department
• Process and maintain all personnel recommendations for employees
• Maintenance and upgrading of employee salaries
• Perform other such duties as required or assigned by the Accounting Supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months - 240 days
