Job Description
Purpose:
To technically support and, if necessary, supervise the installation and commissioning of new Vesuvius Flow Control Systems in USA, Canada, and Mexico. Liaison between Project Management and engineering Team and the Sales area, Customer and OEM and/or sub-contractors as necessary to ensure successful operation and completion of the Projects.
Direct Reports:
The position will have no direct reports, however the individual needs to work in close coordination with technical teams, commercial teams, sales teams, CP Manufacturing, and CP Product Development Laboratory.
Dimensions of Position:
Laboratory Management and shop testing
  • Maintain organization of equipment and tools
  • Set up and perform shop testing of Flow Control Systems
  • Assist with Engineering testing
  • Fabrication and assembly of Flow Control Systems
  • General maintenance and cleanup
Assist with field trials and conversions
  • Coordinate with project managers, account managers and Customers
  • Set up Ladle & Tundish systems
  • Track refractory performance
  • Close liaison with Engineering and Project Management
  • Create reports for trial status and updates
  • Input from senior management prior to issuing formal reports.
  • Debriefing with the Project Manager and Technical Manager after each commissioning to discuss any issues or outstanding open points as detailed in the Technical Assistance Report.
  • To communicate any design or performance weaknesses identified in such a manner that the benefits of design, construction and material changes may be fully understood and considered by the Engineering and/or R&D Department.
Training for the operation and maintenance of Mechanical and Hydraulic Flow Control Systems
  • Classroom presentation
  • Group & personal hands-on instruction
  • Follow-up evaluation and instruction
Customer Service
  • Trouble shoot problems of mechanical & Hydraulic Flow Control Systems
  • Review operation and maintenance and suggest improvements and solutions
  • Technical Reports completed in an appropriate time detailing any problems experienced, modifications made, corrective actions implemented, recommended improvement or action, etc.
  • To provide a level of Customer Support that enhances the relationship with the Customer and increases the Company profile.
Safety
  • Follows all safety rules set forth, keeps work area clean and equipment in serviceable order.
  • In accordance with safety guidelines, participates in all safety meetings & functions following all rules set forth by Vesuvius & customer to ensure safe work environment.
  • Act and work safely in laboratory and steel mill environments in accordance with Vesuvius guidelines and OSHA standards
  • Conduct Safety audits and complete permit to work forms as needed for high risk or nonstandard work

  3. Assists with project planning to meet customer requirements for product function, performance, safety, reliability, cost, and delivery.
  4. Complies with quality management system including adherence to procedures and development of Product Documentation for safe and effective Assembly and Use.
  5. Comply with safety procedures and guidelines

Qualifications:
Engineering Technology Degree or Diploma required preferably in Mechanical or Metallurgical. A degree, or diploma, in a related engineering discipline will be considered. Consideration given to individuals, without a technical degree or diploma, but with exceptional work experience.
Experience:
Two plus years experience with steel making, industrial ceramics, refractory installation, or construction is desired.
Knowledge:
  • Fundamental understanding of the steelmaking process.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Ability to recognize, gather, organize and report relevant data.
  • Good mechanical aptitude to evaluate mechanical problems, outlines requirements, plan projects and solve problems.
  • Basic Hydraulics.
  • Basic Electricity and electronics.
  • Knowledge of steel mill products and environment.
  • Ability to recognize and act on continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Strong reasoning and decision-making skills.
Skills & Behavior:
  • Strong Technical Problem-solving skills within varying environments
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills with proven ability to build rapport with customer employees, technical teams, and management.
  • Proactive attitude when it comes to safety. Must follow all safety guidelines outlined by Vesuvius and their customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in English required. Fluency in French/Spanish an advantage.
  • Ability to multitask and manage a large workload.
  • Willingness to travel, up to 70%, which may require overnight stays. Valid Driver’s license and Passport is a requirement or must be attainable within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to design and implement effective training and development programs.
  • Ability to adapt and make quality decisions under time restraints in undesirable environments (i.e. Extreme heat, dirty, noise)
