POSITION TITLE : Employee Relations Manager DEPARTMENT : HR
POSITION REPORTING: Works under the direction of Human Resources Leadership in the management of employee relations and HR support teams across various regions of the country.
POSITION PURPOSE
This position will oversee the policies, procedures, and HR processes of the company’s field Employee Relations function including the , development and improvement of programs and HR practices related to employee morale and satisfaction. Provide guidance on and directly handle high level employee relation matters to ensure staff are treated fairly and respectfully across the organization. This position will act as the subject matter expert (SME), who will advise and support field employees, managers, leadership and HR teams on a broad range of escalated employment issues including HR policy interpretation, performance management, complaint investigation, employee discipline and misconduct, accommodations, leave of absence management, terminations, reorganizations, and remediation of employment-related disputes.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in Employee Relations, Human Resources or related field required
- 7-10+ years of professional human resource management and employee relations experience.
- Advanced understanding of employment and HR related laws, regulations, policies, principles, concepts, and practices, including Title VII, ADA, ADAA, and FMLA.
- Thorough understanding of dispute resolution and excellent documentation skills.
- Ability to handle challenging, controversial and/or confrontational situations.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to manage through ambiguity and change.
- Solid sense of accountability, high-quality judgment, and sound decision-making.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Conduct High-level HR investigations for field staff and management to include gathering and analyzing facts, applying relevant laws, policies and best practice to reach factually supported conclusions and provide sound recommendations to influence leadership actions.
- Assess, diagnose, and coach field HR Teams and employees through complex employee relations issues, relative to: performance management; workplace investigations and fact-finding; involuntary terminations; accommodations; policy enforcement; workforce reductions.
- Audit and ensure all HR processes are being followed and documentation is thorough and retained for all investigations, PIPs, retention programs, progressive discipline, legal compliance and related and specific field policies and procedures in addition to statutory compliance-related programs such as OFCCP and HIPAA compliance, document retention matters, etc.
- Structure HR Teams and processes in the field within the expectations of specific contract guidelines and requirements. Assist with contract start-up efforts by providing HR guidance on implementing policies and procedures in addition to training HR field support.
- Collect and analyze data to present to senior leadership around employment metrics that include but are not limited to turnover, disciplinary metrics, call out and attendance metrics, rest and meal break compliance, identifying trends and potential issues. etc
- Research and explain labor laws and state regulations concerning employment to field managers, leadership, employees, and HR teams.
- Implement changes or proactive measures to ensure compliance based off of monthly and quarterly internal audits.
- Lead the design and delivery of trainings for field staff, managers, leadership and the HR team that ensure compliance with relevant legislative changes and guide best practices while addressing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
- Assess problematic areas with field program/department managers addressing issues through mediation efforts and/or investigations and reporting to contract specific leadership.
- Uses surveys, interviews, exit interviews, and other studies to conduct research regarding human resource policies, compensation, payroll trends and other employment issues and as a result, make recommendations on changes to HR Leadership.
- Assist HR Leadership and legal in the research and gathering of documentation for claims.
- Manage unemployment claims and participate when required with team members as escalation.
- Maintain required documentation, including intake and investigative notes, supporting documents and final reports.
- Act as a leader for change management and navigate HR initiatives in support of business changes that may impact employees at all levels.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to travel as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working for a Government contractor or other highly regulated environment preferred.
- Significant high-level experience leading and conducting investigations for a large universal organization.
- Broad knowledge of employee relations, complex workplace investigations, federal and state laws / regulations (including but not limited to Title VII, ADA, ADAAA and FMLA).
- Has successfully provided expertise, consultation, guidance and coaching to managers and leadership to address sensitive and/or difficult employee behavior and performance concerns.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner and appropriately escalate issues.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills.
- Ability to establish influential partnerships working with peers, senior leaders and across organizational lines.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, prioritize conflicting demands, and execute on initiatives with a bias towards actions and solutions.
