We are actively searching for a Director of Packaging Engineering located in Naples, FL at our corporate headquarters. This position will drive the vision, strategies, and performance metrics to support the company’s mission. As the leader of the Packaging Engineering department, the director will mentor and coach a team, fostering collaboration with Development Engineering teams, to implement key growth initiatives. The successful individual will lead innovation for development of packaging and labeling for new products and will collaborate on improvements to existing product packaging and labeling. This director must be well versed in design of instrument cases, labeling oversight, FDA/ISO regulatory guidelines and software platforms. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the Packaging Engineering department work activities to provide timely and efficient flow of services and projects.
  • Maintains a leading edge understanding of the orthopedic industry, customers, and competitors in order to find new and novel opportunities to grow the business and reduce cost.
  • Hires, develops and retains the best talent for the engineering team and the organization. Actively provides coaching and career development assistance to team members. Develops future leaders by effective selection and development activities
  • Assesses new technology and new product ideas for technical and economic feasibility
  • Oversees design of new packaging and product identtity labeling for new products.
    • To comply with FDA and MDR requirements.
    • To include Bar Code labeling compliant with international needs.
  • Harmonize Packaging and Labeling Systems globally
    • Work with all Arthrex locations in the U.S. and OUS to define and implement consistent packaging, labeling, package integrity validations, and processes at all packaging design locations.
  • Maintenance of existing packaging and labeling.
    • Update existing designs and/or materials to enhance processing or due to change of location.
    • Ensure compliance with ISO guidelines when sold internationally.
    • Improvements resulting in overall cost savings whenever possible.
    • Standardization of materials and designs globally.
  • Interface with Arthrex packaging vendors to assure specifications are met.
    • Support of deviation and change order requests.
    • Projects tracking to assure packaging and labeling for new product releases are completed on schedule.
  • Manage activities of direct report management and supervisory positions with direct responsibilities of personnel associated with Packaging Engineering and all Labeling creation and to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ensure compliance within functional area and support the compliance objectives of the organization as a whole.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Engineering degree required
  • 10 years’ engineering/business experience required
  • 10 years’ experience in a Packaging Engineering position, with managerial experience required

Knowledge and Skills Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • In-depth knowledge of packaging materials, conversion processes and processing related equipment.
  • Experience with SPC, Design-of-Experiments, FDA and ISO documents related to packaging and labeling.
  • Exercises good judgment and ingenuity.
  • Knowledge of MRP procedures and operations.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:

  • CAD design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks and Creo) and PDM archive software
  • MS Office software products (Word, Project, Excel, etc.)
