Commercial Truck Driver Department: Operations
Status: Non-Exempt
Employee Classification: Regular Full-time
Reports To: Plant Manager
Supervisory Responsibilities : None
Job Summary: Will be responsible for the safe and timely delivery of goods and other articles of trade to our customers. You will be tasked with driving and maintaining trucks that will be assigned to you, as well as working closely with our Logistics Coordinator and Plant Manager to plan routes and track deliveries.
Essential Functions: - Transport finished goods and raw materials over land to and from manufacturing plants and distribution centers
- Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
- Plan routes and meet delivery schedules
- Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving and retain fuel/toll receipts
- Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
- Collect and verify delivery instructions
- Report defects, accidents or violations

- Route finished goods to appropriate storage locations
- Inspect load conditions and verify pallets and materials are secured prior to transit.
- Maintain compliance with food safety standards such as sanitary trailer conditions, all loads are locked or sealed, all items are transported under proper storage specifications.
- Gather, verify, and return all pertinent load documentation paperwork.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Proficient in forklift operation
- Proven work experience as a Truck Driver
- Hands on experience with electronic equipment and software (GPS, AVL units, CB etc)
- Ability to drive long hours
- Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations
- No recent moving or driving violations
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc)
- Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide employment recommendations
- Valid Class A CDL or Commercial Driver's license required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Effective time management skills
- Effective communications skills
- Able to work under pressure
- Able to work overtime when necessary
Working Conditions/Physical Factors: - Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Worker may be exposed to a loud working environment.
- Worker may be exposed to hazards in the workplace such as proximity to equipment conducting extreme heat, moving parts, and electrical current
- Must be able to work in an environment containing allergens (nuts, milk, wheat, etc.)
