MAIN FUNCTION:

n

The MRI Technologist is responsible for providing high quality Magnetic Resonance Imaging services with minimal supervision. The MRI Technologist serves as a positive role model while working in collaboration with all levels of departmental personnel, ensuring and providing a safe working environment and adhering to all patient safety protocols and practice.

This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

n
    n
  • Operate all MR imaging equipment competently while performing high quality procedures in a safe and efficient manner.
  • n
  • Review medical record for patient history while gleaning pertinent clinical information. Share appropriate or unusual information with radiologists.
  • n
  • Interview the patient prior to MRI procedures. Request the removal of metal objects which are hazardous to the patient and equipment when magnet is activated.
  • n
  • Position the patient on MRI table, select specified coil, (receiver), and follow Radiologist-specific protocols for imaging. Review imaging preferences with Radiologist when clinical information indicates a deviation of standard protocol.
  • n
  • Input required information into MR unit and ensure demographic and clinical information is pertinent and correct. Instruct patient throughout the procedure using communication system.
  • n
  • Attentively observe patient throughout procedure for patient safety and discomfort. Provide coaching to patient throughout the exam.
  • n
  • Always maintain a professional technologist/patient relationship and work practices.
  • n
  • Film exams as per required by established protocols. Produce additional copies of images at physician or patient request.
  • n
  • Operate and troubleshoot computers associated with the sections imaging equipment used to produce, process, and optimize clinical data. Archive images onto the appropriate media.
  • n
  • Act consistently as safety agent for MRI department. Adhere to all policies and procedures for staff, physicians, patients, and visitors entering controlled area. Review requirements to entry with all those that are to gain access into controlled area, alerting those entering of the danger of wearing or carrying metal in controlled area and around the magnet. Perform all activities with the utmost concern for patient and personnel safety.

  • Perform independent quality control procedures at the designated intervals on imaging and ancillary equipment to ensure compliance to Federal/State and Joint Commission standards of care.

  • Perform preceptor responsibilities for new hires and when needed, willingly instructing medical staff and students regarding technical procedures and unit operations.
  • n
  • Collaborate, communicate, and problem solve regularly with other divisions of the department, and establish ongoing lines of communication with other CDHC departments through meetings and discussions. Work pro-actively with other CDHC departments to facilitate patient access to scheduling of examinations.

  • Organize daily work schedule and respond to emergencies as necessary.
  • n
  • Demonstrate competence in the use of all applicable aspects of the Radiology Information System (RIS) and other computer systems interfaced with the RIS.
  • n
  • Perform on-call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet the needs of the department.
