Akkodis is seeking an EHS Specialist for a contractual role (6-12 months) with a large aviation company in Victorville, CA. As an EHS Specialist you will be the EHS Focal for the site, come with knowledge and experience with Cal-OSHA regulations, experience with working in a manufacturing environments and willing to take a hands on approach.
Rate Range : $40/hour - $45/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
EHS Specialist job responsibilities include:
- Ensure compliance of operations with regulatory requirements relating to environment, health, and safety.
- Drive the implementation and monitor compliance to EHS standards and continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Leads, manages, and facilitates the completion of hazard identification and risk assessments to develop risk mitigation strategies for the facility by identifying potential or actual adverse safety hazards.
- Utilizes hazard heat maps and strength of defense to identify areas of improvement.
- Direct and facilitate the development of EHS Standard work, annual reviews, periodic inspections, audits, system evaluations and EHS quality assurance.
- Lead incident/event learning teams, safety concern and near miss investigations to identify root cause, develop corrective, and preventative action plans.
- Lead the audit and inspection process to identify environmental, health, and safety risks and work with facility leaders to document corrective actions to closure.
- Oversee and guide the EHS aspects of management of change processes.
- Conduct regular safety walks and lead genba walks.
- Acts as site point of contact for all process safety related matters and provides day-to-day advice and guidance on related issues.
- Actively participate in and support VPP/Safety Committee to resolve EHS Concerns share lessons learned.
- Lead EHS training, provide training materials, and identify improvement opportunities.
- Maintain the EHS portal / Support Central, database and repository with required documentation.
- Generate and review job safety analysis and job specific risk assessments.
- Other EHS duties as requested.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety or similar (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in EHS within an aviation/manufacturing/industrial environment
- Ability and willingness to work flexible and off-shift hours (including 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, nights, weekends, and holidays) when business needs dictate.
- Ability and willingness to travel to and support operations at offsite locations when business needs dictate.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with Cal/OSHA Title 8 regulations and Cal/VPP Program
- Proficient knowledge of regulatory requirements of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other federal and state agencies.
- 5 or more years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety a focus in manufacturing, laboratory, or aviation environment
- Experience in ergonomics, VPP, process safety knowledge, and working with EHS consultants and contractors.
- Prior experience with the aerospace/aviation industry in a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility or commercial airline.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
