Functioning within the Health System's mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Surgical Technologist functions within a collaborative approach along with all members of perioperative services to provide quality patient care. The Surgical Technologist assists in the delivery of care for the surgical patient. Case preparation responsibilities include schedule and booking sheet review to verify necessary equipment to be available and complete. The Surgical Technologist assists in moving and positioning patient per Surgeon's guidelines; participates in time out to confirm procedure and surgeon; and drapes patient within surgeon's guidelines. The Surgical Technologist also assists the Surgeon with the case as directed including providing retraction of tissue for optimal visualization, demonstrating retraction and instrument technique. The Surgical Technologist functions in all areas of Surgical Services including, but not limited to, General, Ortho, OB/GYN, Open Heart, Podiatry, Robotics, Urology, Neuro, Vascular, ENT, Plastics, Hybrid, Robotic and Laser cases. Judgments are made based upon clinical skills. Once training is completed, Surgical Technologist will be expected to be part of the on-call rotation in the respective area of training. On-call response time within 30 minutes required. On-call frequency will be determined in accordance with departmental guidelines.
