Job Description
Surgical Technologists are responsible for assisting in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients by performing scrub duties. Provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled cases. Assists in preparation, transportation, and supervision of patients. Maintains education in surgical operating room and related aspects of patient care.
Responsibilities
Assumes accountability for verification of operative procedure being performed.
Takes call as scheduled.
Operates flash sterilizer and Steris sterilizer.
Scrubs all operative procedures performed.
Applies principles of disinfection and sterilization.
Utilizes surgeon preference card and case cart pick list to competently prepare for operative procedures.
Demonstrates knowledge of patient identification.
Handles, identifies, and delivers all specimens, cultures, implantable devices, and homografts.
Participates in the evaluation of the patient care delivery system.
Operates and maintains equipment according to recommended manufacturers instructions and policies and procedures.
Assists with clean up and case turnover.
Seeks assistance when situation is beyond the ORT/LPN's knowledge and experience.
Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques.
