JOB SUMMARY : The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a Physical Therapist (PT). Performs physical therapy treatments as recommended by PT. Maintains appropriate documentation for patient charts and third-party reimbursement agencies. Performs other clerical or record-keeping activity as required. This staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Performs all direct care in accordance with Physicians orders and established treatment plan. Communicates with patient and physician through verbal and written exchanges of patient status, progress, and changes.
- Effectively utilizes treatment modalities.
- Accurately completes all documentation for patient charts according to department policy and procedures.
- Monitors, in conjunction with patient, re-evaluations by PT and confers with PT to schedule a time for re-evaluations by PT and confers with PT to schedule a time for re-evaluation. Incorporates discharge planning into the treatment process in a timely manner.
- Follows departmental policies for documentation of medical records, billing, and continuing education.
- Integrates patient/family education into treatment program.
- Appropriately utilizes supervisor and departmental resources, attends and participates in departmental meetings and acts as a resource to others.
- Actively involved in improvement in every-day practice and through peer review process.
