The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) is currently recruiting for a Beautician (Cosmetologist) limited-term employment (LTE) position to support the member care team. WVHK is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support, and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses. Our facility is located on the picturesque shoreline of the Chain O' Lakes, off Highway 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton.

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Activity Supervisor, the Cosmetologist is responsible and accountable for providing direct personal hair care and grooming to male and female geriatric and/or disabled members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing haircutting and shaving equipment; permanents, hair sets and comb outs: shampoos and cuts to members, scheduling of appointments in computer; maintaining salon areas in a safe, sanitary manner; and ordering supplies to provide the services listed. These services are provided in accordance with federal, state and VA regulations, the mission and philosophy and the policies and procedures of the Wisconsin Veterans Home.

Salary Information
The pay for this position is $17.03 per hour with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
This job does not offer employee benefits.
The position is in pay schedule-pay range 06-09.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
This is a flexible part-time position with the option to pick up additional hours as desired with no required overtime. Primary shift will be 7:00am to 1:30pm, working 6 hours per day, 3-4 days per week.
LTE jobs are limited to 1,039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Candidates will be subject to the following environmental conditions:
  1. Conditions are those normally for in a salon. Stand or walk up to 90% of an 8-hour day to provide member hair care and assistance.
  2. Occasional exposure to blood/body fluids, as required to perform hair and grooming care for residents.
  3. Continuous exposure to hazardous chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, soap, and perm solution, etc.
  4. Continuous exposure to latex, Tyvek, plastic and/or materials which are used for personal protective equipment.
  5. Occasional exposure to unpredictable behaviors of members.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will hold or be eligible for a Cosmetologist license in the State of Wisconsin
Well-qualified applicants will also have experience :
  • Performing male and female hairstyling (e.g., shampooing, cutting, chemical treatments, shaving, conditioning, providing styling instruction, scalp care, etc.); and
  • Maintaining a sanitary workstation/environment (e.g., sterilizing tools, using chemicals, using infection control techniques, removing waste, sweeping, cleaning counters, etc.)
