The LA Conservation Corps ("the Corps") is a private, non-profit organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1986. To date, more than 20,000 young people have participated in the Corps classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the greater Los Angeles area.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Clerk I is responsible for processing payroll, which includes but is not limited to, timesheet review, calculations and preparing payroll for transmission using Paycom Payroll system. This position will require extensive interface with Program staff to prevent or resolve payroll and timecard discrepancies. In addition, this position will perform payroll-related maintenance functions.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Generates pre-payroll audit reports and assists with correcting errors prior to payroll submission (full-time, supervisors, participants and after school part-time employees).
  • Maintains payroll information by collating, calculating and entering data.
  • Reviews time sheets for proper signatures for (full-time and After School program part-time employees.
  • Reviews Paycom data entry reports.
  • Provides support and back-up for other payroll activities.
  • Produces Billable Hours & Work Hours Reports.
  • Cross references payroll data against Corpsmember information to compliance.
  • Generates and forwards payroll hours reports to appropriate authorizing staff.
  • Provides assistance in generating Percent Labor Distribution Form 4s for all full-time staff after transmission.
  • Provides monthly Payroll backup reports to accounting department according to mandatory projects for invoicing as well; as needed (Full-time, supervisors and participants).
  • Provides document/assistance for audits.
  • Provides assistance in generating and printing manual checks.
  • Creates/Submits Personnel Action Forms as needed.
  • Monitors Payroll/Salesforce employee head count accuracy report on a weekly basis.
  • Process payroll journal entries and reclassifications.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED (from an accredited institution); A minimum of two (2) years of related experience and/or training, required.
  • Experience in computerized accounting applications, spreadsheets software (i.e. MS Excel) and/or prior Paycom experience; Previous experience working in the non-profit or public sector, preferred.
Other Duties and Requirements
  • Must be COVID-19 vaccinated and be able to provide supporting documentation.
  • Pass a post-offer drug/alcohol screen test before commencing employment (required to submit for the drug/alcohol screening at a company designated facility).
  • Pass a post-offer Live Scan (fingerprint/background clearance-Department of Justice) before commencing employment.
  • Reference checks will be conducted; employment is contingent upon receipt of acceptable references.
  • Attend events and meetings in the community to support the Corps' tree planting projects. This can involve working Saturdays or Sundays, as needed.
  • Valid California Commercial Class C Driver's License
  • Periodic use of private vehicle for company purposes; validation of driving record and approval of commercial policy insurability is required in conjunction with proof of personal minimum liability insurance coverage per the requirements of the State of California. Mileage will be reimbursed at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) standard mileage rate.

Salary and Benefits
  • Hourly rate: $22.29 -$27.44 (reflects the entire hourly rate range). A starting hourly rate higher than $22.29 per hour is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (hourly rate range).
