About You
Your contribution
We have a Dispatcher Supervisor job opening in our Grocery facility, in Elizabeth, NJ.
As a member of the Transportation Team, you will have daily interaction with Owner Operator and Food Hauler drivers. You will be responsible for overseeing a 24 hour, seven day a week operation. Work week and days off will be based upon business needs and may not contain traditional Saturday/Sunday off days. To be successful in this position, the candidate must have familiarity with transportation and distribution practices in a multi-dock, fast paced environment. Additionally, this position requires technical abilities and working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
Schedule: 2nd Shift: 4PM-12AM
The core functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Flexible with amount of hours worked daily and weekly. Flexible with working six or seven days a week, if needed.
- Schedule initial dispatch of all outbound and inbound loads.
- Oversee Dispatchers to ensure proper dispatch procedures are being followed.
- Ability to oversee and direct affiliated drivers.
- Schedule driver shifts and schedules; includes Employee Drivers, Owner Operators and Third Party Fleets.
- Oversee distribution of loads to drivers following most efficient and effective methods.
- Maintain Omnitracs On Board Computer System.
- Monitor driver performance by analyzing idle time, MPG’s, and GPS tracking.
- Review weekly Omnitracs reports with Supervisors and Dispatchers.
- Train Dispatch personnel on Omnitracs, Motive, and CargoWatch Systems.
- Train drivers on Omnitracs System – how to sign into tractor, log off for breaks, enter daily information and log off at end of day.
- Approve and maintain payroll for all employee drivers.
- Maintain employee driver attendance in accordance with attendance policy; disciplinary action enforced when required.
- Monitor driver hours to ensure compliance with DOT Regulations.
- Maintain trailer control of fleet trailers assigned to operation.
- Oversee tracking of customers late deliveries to compile weekly report for Customer Service and develop plan to correct.
- Communicate with tractor leasing company on status of equipment daily.
- Communicate with customers on delivery status, any emergencies, shortages, etc.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Two years of college or 1-2 years equivalent technical experience in Transportation or Distribution preferred.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to include professional email, telephone, and in person communications
- Ability to perform multiple functions simultaneously while handling heavy telephone call volume.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Department of Transportation Regulations for Class A Drivers.
- Experience with Transportation Management Systems and On Board Computer Systems.
- Flexibility with regard to working hours, shift rotations, work locations, weekends, overtime, and holidays in a 24/7 Sunday thru Saturday operation. Split work week is required (Any 5 out of 7) and days off will be based on business need and may not include traditional Saturday/Sunday off days.
