About the role

The Clinical Veterinarian is responsible for animal health care issues at APC and assists the Study Coordinator(s)/Study Director in the conduct of studies. The Clinical Veterinarian will participate in the collection of samples, tissue, and raw data; prepare test articles for administration, and performs surgery and other medical procedures. The Clinical Veterinarian will supervise and participate in the diagnosis and treatment of sick animals. The Clinical Veterinarian may oversee quarantine and animal acquisition procedures.


What You'll Do Here

  • Supervises and participates in the diagnosis of sick animals and supervises and participates in the treatment of sick animals.
  • Supervises and participates in the anesthesia and recovery of animals during surgical procedures. Ensures that all necessary supplies and materials for current procedures are available and that sterility in the surgical quarters is maintained.
  • Will conduct surgical and other medical procedures and treatments.
  • Participates in the training of technicians.
  • Supervises and participates in the performance of routine herd health surveillance laboratory tests, such as fecal examination, blood collection, necropsy, and tissue collection.
  • If not already, will become knowledgeable of the Animal Welfare Act, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and other related references and ensure that APC and its employees comply with them in a practical and appropriate manner.
  • Will contribute to the elaboration and revision of the Animal Care and Use program of APC.
  • Will serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, if appointed.
  • Must follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) pertaining to the area of work, ensure that other employees follow the SOP's and contribute to the generation of new SOP's.
  • Is responsible for assisting in the maintenance of surgical facilities and related equipment.
  • Participates in the monitoring and calibration of scientific equipment.
  • Assists in researching scientific methods and contributes to model development.
  • Participates in research activities in the following ways:
  • Conducts procedures (surgical and other) and supervises and participates in sample collection and processing (urine, blood, tissues, etc.).
  • Ensures data is collected and reported appropriately.
  • Prepares and administers test article.
  • Collects data with advanced scientific equipment (e.g., ultrasound or fluroscope).
  • Supervises and/or participates in weekend duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


What You'll Need to Succeed

  • DVM required, Active Veterinary License in at least 1 US State.
  • Must acquire Missouri State License in Veterinary Medicine within 1 year of job start.
  • Experience with FDA GLP, not required but preferred.
  • Graduates of Non-AVMA accredited veterinary schools must have educational commission for foreign veterinary graduates (ECFVG) certification.
  • Basic computer skills sufficient to perform the daily duties of the role.
  • Primate experience in highly desired.
