The Company
Ingles Markets began in 1963 as a single supermarket and has since grown into a regional grocery store chain with just under 200 retail locations operating in 6 southeastern states, a 1.6-million-square foot distribution center, two truck fleets, and a milk processing plant. Ingles Markets' headquarters and distribution center are located just 15 minutes outside of Asheville, NC in the town of Black Mountain.

The Position
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for assisting in various payroll functions at the retail level, including file maintenance, data entry, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Process personnel changes and terminations.
  • Process changes regarding direct deposit accounts, tax withholdings, and addresses for associates.
  • Oversee file maintenance across multiple districts within the company.
  • Manage garnishments as needed, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Respond to all associate correspondence professionally, timely, and courteously.
  • Resolve associate questions and problems and reissue W-2 forms when applicable.
  • Prepare weekly store counts and report the number of associates paid weekly.
  • Assisting management with questions regarding store performance reports.
  • Assist supervisors with projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Enter data into the appropriate systems in a timely fashion.
  • Research payment problems as they arise.
  • Conduct administrative responsibilities including opening and sorting mail, filing, and filling in when needed.
  • Perform all other duties and assignments as directed.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in payroll or related fields preferred.
  • Strong organization, analytical, and prioritization skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Comfortable with using a computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
  • Strong typing skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Able to sit/stand for extensive periods of time.
  • Able to adapt quickly in a dynamic work environment.
  • Moderate- to high-stress tolerance, depending on workflow.
