POSITION TITLE: Bus Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Shall meet all federal, state and county board requirements applicable to school bus drivers.
REPORTS TO:
  • Principal or Principal's designee and Transportation Supervisor
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and valid Alabama School Bus Driver's License with appropriate endorsements.
  • Must Pass a medical examination upon initial employment and every other year as such requirements as may be prescribed by the DeKalb County Board of Education, no later than April 1, and meet such requirements as may be prescribed by law or regulation, which include drug and alcohol testing, a medical clearance as needed for driver, including condition of heart, blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, TB, hearing, vision and overall physical condition.
  • Pass mandatory drug test.
  • Agrees to attend transportation meetings, workshops and participate in staff development, as required by the Board of Education.
  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
  • Reports undisciplined students to school personnel.
  • Keep the assigned bus clean.
  • Adheres to the assigned schedule.
  • Check the bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
  • Notifies proper authorities in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  • Exercises reasonable leadership when on extra school trips.
  • Reports ALL accidents and completes required reports.
  • Enforces regulations and policies against use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol.
  • Reports to his/her principal any violent disruptive incidents (physical violence with or without a weapon, vandalism and property damage) on the day the incident occurs.
  • Subcontracting positions are prohibited. All absences and substitutes must be reported.
  • Perform reasonable position duties and tasks as requested by the superintendent and/or designated supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Salary and work year to be according to the current approved/applicable salary schedule .
EVALUATION:
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
