Job Description

Beacon Hill Financial is collaborating with a non-profit in Washington D.C. to bring a Senior General Ledger Accountant with non-profit experience to their team. The Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day general ledger accounting activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the accounting team, assisting with month-end and year-end closings, preparing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The role will be based in our Washington, DC office with a hybrid work schedule-3 days in-office and 2 days remote each week.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation, posting, and maintenance of journal entries for monthly and quarterly close processes.

  • Ensure that all transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with GAAP.

  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, ensuring all discrepancies are identified and resolved.

  • Assist in preparing financial reports for management, including variance analysis and explanations.

  • Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.

  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for auditors.

  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with federal and state regulations and funding restrictions relevant to the organization.

  • Provide analysis of financial performance and assist in strategic decision-making.

  • Work closely with other departments (programs, development, etc.) to provide financial insights and ensure proper allocation of funds.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement in accounting functions and recommend enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff as needed.
